Fueled by a hearty appetite for Zimbabwean steak and an equally strong hunger for runs, Tim Robinson delivered his best international innings to date on July 16 in Harare. Scoring an unbeaten 75 off 57 balls, Robinson anchored New Zealand to a 21-run victory over South Africa in the ongoing T20I tri-series.

“I’m loving Zimbabwe so far,” Robinson said after the match. “The weather’s great, the people are warm, and the steaks—those are just unbeatable. I’ve definitely eaten my share of red meat this week.” His affection for the local cuisine was clear, but it was his composed, match-winning effort with the bat that truly made headlines.

Rescuing the Innings with Grit and Patience

Robinson stepped in after just 17 deliveries, with New Zealand reeling at 27/1. The top order collapse continued, reducing the side to 70/5 in the 11th over. It was then that debutant Bevon Jacobs joined Robinson, and together they put on an unbroken 103-run partnership that propelled the Black Caps to a competitive 173/5.

“We knew we had to stay out there,” Robinson recalled. “Bev and I talked about pushing it deep. Losing more wickets wasn’t an option, so we had to rebuild slowly and look for gaps. And it paid off.”

The calculated approach worked wonders as New Zealand posted a total that would ultimately prove more than enough. With the ball, Matt Henry and Jacob Duffy picked up three wickets apiece to dismantle South Africa’s chase, bowling them out for 152 in 18.2 overs.

    Promising Signs from New Talent

Jacobs, a 23-year-old allrounder born in Pretoria, impressed everyone on debut with his composed 44* off 30 balls. “He’s a big guy, and he hits a massive ball,” Robinson said. “But what stood out was how calm he looked. He clearly enjoyed it out there and looked right at home.”

Jacobs was picked by Mumbai Indians in the latest IPL auction but is yet to feature in a match. Performances like this will surely turn heads and increase his chances in future tournaments, including those covered closely by platforms such as Jeetbuzz, where player potential is always under the spotlight.

    Humble Mindset, Big Impact

Speaking on his own mindset, Robinson emphasized staying grounded. “You just have to be present—focus on each ball, each moment. That’s what cricket teaches you. You can’t think too far ahead.”

He admitted that contributing to his country’s win was addictive: “It’s a great feeling, and I hope to repeat it again and again. Winning for your nation is special.”

The support for Robinson and the team was evident from the Harare crowd, whose vocal backing of New Zealand added to the excitement of the contest.

    Local Support, Global Implications

Robinson noticed the surprising crowd dynamic. “It seemed like the fans were right behind us. Maybe it’s our style of play or the way we treat others, but we felt that energy, and we appreciate it.”

While the local support might be driven by historical tension with South Africa, especially due to the infrequency of bilateral tours, the connection with the crowd cannot be ignored.

As anticipation builds for the upcoming fixture between Zimbabwe and New Zealand, platforms like Jeetwin are expected to follow closely. With rising stars like Robinson and Jacobs gaining attention, this tri-series may be remembered not only for its cricket but also for the emergence of fresh global talent.
