A sore neck is more than just an uncomfortable pain; it can affect your life on a daily basis, and can significantly affect your ability to be productive. If your neck is sore enough, it can even affect your ability to do basic things like get sleep at night.

That’s why it’s so important to identify where the problem is coming from, so you can hopefully resolve it and move towards relief. Understanding the most common causes for sore necks can not only help you find relief now but also help you avoid discomfort in the future. A zyllion shiatsu massager can provide targeted relief, easing muscle tension and promoting relaxation.

    An Injury

Did you hurt yourself recently? Perhaps you pulled a muscle, or went a little too hard working out at the gym. Perhaps you were in a car accident a few months ago, and you’re only just starting to feel the effects. Sometimes our injuries can show up when we least expect them, weeks or even months after the injury took place. Ask yourself whether this may be the cause, and take a good look at the timeline of when your pain started.

    Poor Posture

Perhaps you have a job where you sit at a desk all day and you’re quite slouched over. Maybe when you look at your phone your neck is bent down in an awkward position. Poor posture can happen to the best of us, even when we don’t even realize we’re doing it.

Try to check your posture throughout the day, and correct it if possible. Over time, poor posture will lead to stiffness and pain, and even long term posture issues. If possible, use an ergonomic chair for your workspace, and try wearing a neck or back brace. This can help correct your slouching, and hopefully prevent future issues from reoccurring.

    Sleeping Position

Sure, you may love all of those comfortable pillows that are spread out over your bed, however, maybe they might be causing your neck pain. Ideally, you should sleep with your head only slightly elevated, not cranked up at a 45° or even 90° angle. This is killing your neck muscles, so ask yourself you could take it easy on the pillows a bit more.

Ideally, you should invest in a memory foam pillow that will adjust to the weight of your head and give you just the right amount of elevation without overstraining your neck muscles.

    Stress

Did you know that stress can affect you in so many more ways than just feeling tense? Stress can start to take its form physically, and most commonly it takes form in the neck and shoulders. If you’ve been leading a stressful lifestyle recently, then it could likely be the reason for your muse stiffness and pain.
